Mary Mac’s Tea Room
Located in Midtown, Mary Mac’s has been an Atlanta institution since 1945. Interwoven with the history of the city itself, the eatery opened post World War II, when women restauranteurs were blocked by prejudice and touting the name “tea room” was a means of making female entrepreneurship palatable to Southern society. This simple eatery has withstood both stiff opening odds and the test of time, rising to prominence and continuing to memorialize Southern culinary tradition and history. Also nicknamed “Atlanta’s Dining Room,” here you will experience Southern legacy firsthand as you feast on soul food classics like their signature fried chicken, fried okra, mac & cheese, hush puppies, and greens. The carpeted floor, open floor eating space, and genteel décor recreate an authentic hometown spirit for the visiting tourist and native alike.
