Named the city’s best fried chicken by Atlanta Magazine, it’s no surprise that Busy Bee is buzzing. Founded in 1947 by Lucy Jackson, a self-taught Black chef inspired to create affordable, nurturing food in her hometown, Busy Bee got a great start and never lost its stride. Awarded a coveted James Beard award in 2022, the restaurant continues to provide no-frills soul food with a whole lot of heart. You won’t want to miss the famous fried chicken, but the mac n’ cheese, candied yams, and smothered chicken are all equally soul-soothing. Perennially packed with friends and families, there’s often a line out the door, but we promise it’s well worth the wait.
