Chef Winnie’s Kitchen
Inspired by the culinary genius of her homeland, Chef Woinshet “Winnie” Legesse Emory invites Atlanta to taste true Ethiopian flavors. With recipes handed down from her ancestors as well as dishes influenced by Atlanta’s own eclectic communities, the food is guaranteed to both delight and surprise. While the menu is grounded in Ethiopian cooking, expect a taste of Mexico, the Caribbean, and a touch of the South with entreés like textured cornmeal fish tacos, crispy wings, and even a rendition of rasta pasta. Still, the bulk of the menu is devoted to Ethiopian favorites, including Beef, Chicken, Tilapia, and Jackfruit tibs, as well as, of course, injera bread. A unique concept yet modest execution, Chef Winnie’s Kitchen is located in an unassuming spot on East Ponce de Leon Ave but caters to and fosters a sense of community in a big way. Chef Winnie’s intention: to make everyone feel a piece of home. Set in a cozy dining room with homey placemats and tablecloths, Chef Winnie’s Kitchen more than accomplishes this goal, providing a casual setting reminiscent of a Sunday dinner with loved ones.
