Alias on 14th St embodies everything about DC nightlife from the food to the vibe and not to mention the fun drinks. This speakeasy-esq restaurant is the perfect spot to “pre-game” before a night out with friends or hang out after dinner when it feels a little too early to go home. Its interior decor is very playful and eclectic with neon lights and a collection of abstract art adorning the walls. It definitely gives New York City energy in the heart of DC, with a top secret social club status that adds an air of mystery. An inventive ode to the Prohibition era when alcohol was disguised, here you’ll find imaginative mixes like the Bubble-Icious, a fruity concoction with citrus vodka, raspberry, and fresh lemon, topped with drinkable bubbles from a retro bubble gun. Patrons can also pick from a handful of classic beers and wines, or a more extensive list of champagnes and sparklers. However, as an ice tea lover I highly recommend their Thai’D Up cocktail which really took me by surprise with its out of this world assemblage of spices.  The food at Alias too, levels with its delicious drink offering. Expect a fusion of Spanish and Mediterranean cuisine such as the crab stuffed piquillo and their flavorful carpaccio. I highly recommend dabbling into the “Chef’s Selection” which is filled with international delicacies with an American twist. In true speakeasy style, expect to descend into a provocative space of intrigue and delectation where you can become anyone you want to be.
