Take hip-hop, combine soul food with the best of Puerto Rican cuisine, and you have Beatstro. Known as the “Hip-Hop Restaurant,” Beatstro is bringing great food and even better vibes to the Bronx. Founded by Bronx natives, the space celebrates Mott Haven’s cultural roots, paying homage to the block parties of the 70s and 80s. Local artwork decorates the walls, along with vintage prints and classic vinyl. Although unafraid to give classic dishes a contemporary update, Beastro unapologetically embraces the best parts of the past, and knows the Bronx doesn’t need anyone coming in and changing the neighborhood. Still, the best part is the food. At “Beats n’ Brunch,” bottomless mimosas, shrimp n’ grits, fried chicken, and locrio pair perfectly with a high energy soundtrack of classic hip-hop. Lunch and dinner bring crispy pork rinds and fried green tomatoes, along with ribs, catfish, and more fried chicken. A much-needed alternative to more sedate and impersonal locations, Beatstro is all about being a jewel for hip-hop in the Bronx.
